She’s Got Issues: A Bright-Eyed and Well-Heeled Fairy Tale by Stephanie Lessing

int_lessing_14Shoe-obsessed Chloe Rose has just landed her dream job. But can this sweet and innocent Jersey Girl survive in the cut-throat New York fashion magazine industry? “She’s Got Issues” (published by iUniverse), by Stephanie Lessing, will remind readers that sometimes dreams do come true.As Chloe prepares to join the ranks of fashion editors at an uptown magazine, her decidedly downtown sister Zoe tries to warn her of the snake pit she is about to enter. Chloe is undeterred, however, and spurred on by her passion for her work, manages to bumble her way to the top.

Chloe’s fairy tale advancement reads a bit like a modern-day Cinderella story, complete with her very own prince/Editor-in-Chief, Daniel Princely, the owner of the magazine. He is the quintessential New York man: rich, elegant and powerful. The breath of fresh air Chloe brings has him completely mesmerized.

Of course, every fairy tale must have a wicked character, and in this story her name is Ruth Davis, Chloe’s boss. Selfish, mean, insecure and unhappy with the way her own career has turned out, Ruth does everything she can to sabotage Chloe. Ruth is also comically insane, spending most of her days nibbling on her lipstick and trying to sue the company without losing her buzz.

“She’s Got Issues” is smart and empowering but above all, funny. Women will appreciate Chloe’s kindness, passion to succeed and ability to reach the top without selling her soul. For women everywhere, she represents the girl who wants it all: a job she loves, the ideal man, and of course, the perfect pair of shoes.
