Can you wear the romper trend?

Posted 25 Jul 2009

Early in the Spring, I told you a must-have for the season was a jumpsuit (see the post “Jump In”) now those pants have shortened and have become rompers. You’ve seen them on tons of celebrities and you’re trying to decide if you can wear them too.  Not sure if you’re too old for the school girl look? Or if they are just too short to cover your behind.

Well, answer these three questions and you’ll be able to decide if and how you romp around:

1. Is it your style? Just because everyone else is wearing it doesn’t mean you have to wear it too. Be true to who you are.  Check out the post “What’s your fashion style?” to help you decide.

2. Are you over 12? Okay 25? If you are out of school and in the world of the working let your level of maturity help to guide you here. Now, I know “30 is the new 20″ and “40 is the new 30″ and so on but regardless, you might not want to look like you are headed to recess. Here are a few do and don’t styles:

DON’T:  Meet Me On The Playground

3. Will you be comfortable? Now let’s be honest, we all have body type issues and everyone isn’t comfortable showing so much thigh. So the same rule for the length of shorts applies here (see the post “Do’s and Don’ts for Summer’s Hottest Trends”):  If you wouldn’t wear a skirt that length, don’t buy a romper that length! Now when you see them in photos they are typically really short but trust me, there are rompers that can keep you “covered”.  These styles that have longer inseams.  The definition of an inseam?  The inner seam of a pair of pants, from the crotch to the bottom of the pant leg (or short leg in this case).   Remember, the smaller the number the more thigh and behind (1 and 2 inch inseams won’t leave much to the imagination) and the longer the number the more that’s covered up (but does an 11 inch inseam even seem like a romper anymore?).

Still can’t decide? Send me your dilemma and I’ll help. Just post it below.

Make sense?
