Fall Fashion Trend – Capes
Looks for Women

I know when you hear capes, you immediately think cape crusaders. While you are a hero, for sure, to someone (children, spouse, friends, parents), you are not likely to perform your heroics with an “S” on your chest and long, flowing fabric down your back (ahem, a cape). But this fall season may change that…capes are in trend!
Luckily for you and me, this season’s capes are warmer than the one superwoman sports and are way more fashionable. Plus, there are so many options there is one that is sure to fit your style (in case you don’t have a desire to wear it with a bodysuit only) — from the more conservative super hero to the one that is all flash. Honestly, if you are that flashy, you might love the superwoman version from the ’70s.
So here are a few suggestions for donning your cape while performing feats of heroism like going to the office, grocery shopping and heading out to dinner.
Helene Berman Wool Blend Cape $147.90
Conservative
Keep it simple — if you consider yourself conservative, a cape that is all flash will not be for you. So keep it simple like this one from Helen Berman.
- Go neutral — that way you can pair it with more so you get lots of use out of it.
- Pair it with slacks — just avoid the varying lengths. Getting the length right for your skirts and dresses can be frustrating. Keep your long coat around for when you want abandon the trousers.
Aryn K Tie Front Cape $98.00
Trendy
- Add details — you like keeping up with the trends but want your pieces to work with multiple items in your wardrobe (without you having to work too hard to make sense of it all). Choose a cape with a little more styling but in colors that blend easily like this plaid tie front option.
- Play with the length — now you should be willing to experiment with the length from skirts to slacks to short shorts. Just make sure you choose a cape that is at least hip length. And when going short on the bottom make sure you aren’t too top heavy; you may have to forgo the stilettos and anchor your look with boots.

Tarnish Faux Fur Knit Cape $98.00
Creative
- Mix textures — they won’t even know it was a cape until you’ve left them disarmed. Isn’t that how all super heroes beat their villains?
- Go to all lengths — I don’t need to tell you how to be creative with lengths…you will surely pair your waist length cape with short shorts, long dresses and everything in-between. Just keep balance with layering under the cape to elongate the upper part of the body when the look starts to get too top heavy.
Now, don’t go believing you’re “able to leap tall buildings in a single bound” but you will be able to turn heads in any room. That’s a super power to love too!
What else is hot this fall? Color blocking!
