This makes sense:

9 tips for making sure you are wearing the right bra

I can’t believe that I have never written a post on how to measure for your bra size!  Hmmm…I searched all of my old posts and NOTHING.  So it is a good thing that I attended Wacoal’s “Cocktails and a Fitting” event yesterday.

While sipping on my cosmopolitan martini, I learned some new facts about bra sizes and fittings and confirmed some things that I already new thanks to Wacoal’s bra fitting expert Sue Smith.  So I though I would share the top nine things to know when bra shopping.  Actually, it might spur you to go bra shopping sooner so you don’t just keep buying the same bra size over and over again like the 8 out of 10 women who are wearing the wrong sized bra.

  1. You should get measured yearly!  Yes, yearly.  It was a shock to me too.  I know that young girls need to get sized every 6 months because of their growth but for us…ummm, more mature women, I never imagined.  I was informed that your body still goes through changes and it made sense after she explained it.  Think about it with weight gains or losses your back size changes and we can think of tons of reasons our weight fluctuates.  If you gain 5 – 7 lbs, your bra size will change.
  2. The bra should fit snug in the bag on the first or second hook.  You always want room to tighten your bra as the size gives over time.
  3. Make sure the wire fits under the bra tissue.  Often people were their bras too low and then they have those marks on their chest.
  4. The center of the bra should lay flat.  If it is gapping, it doesn’t fit.
  5. The bra should clear the breast tissue on the side.  Yes, your breast tissue extends to your arm so don’t have part of the tissue hanging out.  It looks HORRIBLE under your shirts.
  6. But the bra on and then hook it in back.  No hooking it and then turning it around.
  7. After you get it on, bend over.  I like to touch my toes.  It makes the breast tissue fall into the center of the bra; helps your girls stand at attention (no sagging).
  8. Don’t wear the same bra two days in a row.  Your bra needs time to breathe and snap back so at least give it a 24 hour break.  A bra should be worn once and then washed to extend her life.
  9. After washing and wearing a bra 100 times she needs to be replaced

Now that you are ready to find out your current size, why not do it with a professional.  Sue Smith informed me that most major department stores have professional bra fitters.  Some of the recommended stores are Dillards, Von Mar and Nordstroms.  Also, Wacoal has a team of over 70 consultants nationwide.  Just visit their site at www.wacoal.com and find a bra fitting event or consultant near you.

Plus, try the Wacoal brand of bras.  They are a great brand and have pretty colors too.  Makes sense!
