If you have watched any of the first few videos on What to Wear to an Interview – the overview, conservative interview or creative interview, you may be shaking your head at me and I know why. You are thinking that face to face interviews are becoming obsolete.
Like you, I read the TIME article – Webcam Meetings on the Rise that said: “Looking to save time and money, companies are turning to video-chat software as a cheap, low-hassle way to vet job candidates. That means a growing number of people looking for work are meeting their prospective new bosses not at the office but in the comfort of their own home. “ But then I also saw some statistic that said webcam meetings only accounted for something like 12% of interviews thus the majority of interviews are still face to face.
Now I’m not trying to down play the importance of the video-chat interview (I know…cell phones were only owned by 12% of people at one time too) but I do believe you need to be prepared for both. That face to face interview is not going anywhere anytime soon and you need a job in today’s environment not 5 to 10 years from now!
So with all of that said, no matter what the current reality is for you, I want you to be prepared! So here are tips for doing an interview over a service like Skype. Get ready for your close up.
