3 Tips for Buying a Winter Coat
Shopping Strategies

Now is the perfect time to get a new winter coat. With all of the great sales you can get an excellent coat at a cents”ible” price but if you buy the wrong one, you just wasted time
AND money. So here are 3 tips to get the perfect winter coat:
- Assess your need — what is the use of the coat? Is it purely fashion to cover your great after five looks? You’ll want something fairly long to cover the longer dresses. Is it to wear to the gym? A great waist length jacket might be perfect. Or is it your work coat and you walk to work? Long and down might be the perfect match for our Chicago weather.
- Chose the right style — now that you know what you need it for, you need to decide which style is best for your body type. If you are well endowed, skip the double breasted coat. It is likely to pull at your breast. Wide hips? Go for an a-line coat to give you room.
- Make sure it fits — and that it fits over your sweaters and other things that you might wear under your coat. Stretch your arm across your chest to make sure you have room in the back. The worst is to reach for something one day and here the tear down the back of your coat. Also, check the length of the sleeves to be sure they reach the middle of the back of your hands. You don’t want a coat that is too short and your blazer and shirts hang from under it.
Now here are some cents”ible” options by need. Make sense?
For a brisk walk to work
For hobnobbing after 5
For a quick run to the gym (and I mean run figuratively)
For pants only
