My family will kill me for telling this but oh well. I love to come up with these ideas for Mother’s Day that I think are great and my older brother thinks are corny. But he loves me and just goes along with it anyway.
Like the time we did a music video. This was the Mother’s Day after the movie Soul Food came out and the song “A Song for Mama” was a hit by Boys II Men. I decided we should do a video to that song. So my brother, his wife, my nephew and I produced a video the Saturday before Mother’s Day. It took forever to edit because I left for a date after we shot it and didn’t start editing it until late that night. I had to complete it on Mother’s Day so I missed going to church with my mom which was a bit of a fiasco but it turned out great. I would embed it here but I want to live so you have to settle for the song.
Then there was the time that I decided we should have an awards show. We had clips from the nominees which were from actual movies like the actress who had narcolepsy in Deuce Bigelow and Sandra Bullock dancing in Miss Congeniality — well there were some funny awards like the Mother with the Least Rhythm. Anyway, again this was another time I underestimated editing. So my brother and I stayed up all night completing it. We had envelopes with gold seals and of course, I dressed up for the occasion. One of my uncles thought I was Janet Jackson! Like for real, she came in for our family awards show? Don’t laugh we all have one of those in our family.
Okay so this long intro the post was to say that on Mother’s Day you can do the traditional thing and get her flowers, perfume, or even a beautiful handbag or you can let your creative juices flow. Videos and pictures are a great way to give your Mom a gift that will last a life time.
