The Triangle Shape
This body shape is the opposite of the inverted triangle (shocker!). The body is defined by hips that are wider than the shoulders and a defined waist. While this body type is quite common, people often struggle with dressing this body but it is really very easy. One quick tip before we even get started on balance, visit a tailor to fit the waist of your pants and skirts. This body shape usually struggles with the waist being to large because they have to accommodate for their hips. To stay looking nice and pulled together just visit a tailor who can take the waist in for a perfect fit. Now…
How to achieve balance?
-
Minimize the hips with solid colors; try not to bring too much attention to the hips with patterns and bright colors…leave those options for the top.
-
Make the shoulders a little broader for balance by choosing to layer jackets over tops and choosing tops with wide lapels to add broadness to the upper body.
-
Choose jackets and tops that hit at mid hip so the jacket doesn’t sit on top of the waist and thus exaggerating the hip width my having hips stick out on the sides.
-
Choose full pants to keep the hips balanced. Tight skinny pants will show off the wideness of the hips as they taper to the ankle.
-
Avoid side pockets especially if you have a large behind too. The pants typically pull around the hip and butt area making the pockets pull open — very unattractive.
-
Don’t forget to keep the waist cinched. If you don’t define the waist but do the other two, you will achieve a rectangle body versus and hourglass.
