So you are leaving the kiddies at home today and heading out for those end of year sales (or locking yourself in a room with the computer to shop online)? Remember, the first part of the shopping strategy is having a list. If you work in an office and these pieces aren’t already in your closet, the should be ON YOUR LIST:
1. A Black Sheath Dress - consider this an investment piece. You can pair it with a blazer (or boyfriend sweater) for a great in office look and then, dress up with jewelry and wrap for an after 5 work event. (If you have large hips, consider an a-line dress.)
2. A Pencil Skirt – another great investment piece. Won’t go out of style anytime soon and you can wear it with everything. Just choose the appropriate length – at or below the knee. Too short at work is a no no. (Same as above, larger hips should head for a-line.)
3. Basic Pants — consider flat front, well made trousers. These will last you years so stock up now while the discounts are 40% off or more.
4. Wool Coat — the best way to look pulled together in the winter time is having a top coat that looks great. A classic wool coat will last you years so don’t be afraid to invest a little.
5. Blazer — get a great classic one and it will last you for years too. Make sure it is well made and fits you in the shoulders and back. Adding a blazer to that pencil skirt or classic pants will give you a great pulled together work look but later, you can pair it with jeans.
6. White Button Down Shirts — yes, shirts plural! White fades, can get yellow under the arm and will show those irremovable stains. So always have a fresh alternative. Buy several well fitting, yet inexpensive white shirts.
Here are some options that I found online for those 6 items:
