I usually stick to fashion related posts but after reading the results of the body hair grooming post, I had to write something! Plus, good grooming is good style.
I was really shocked that so many men still refuse to take the time to groom the visible areas (eyebrows, ears, and noses) as well as their “intimate” areas. If this were the 90′s and there were only the ancient means of hair removal for these areas (waxing or clippers), I might be able to understand their resistance. However, there are so many tools to take care of those manly regions that not doing so seem barbaric.
What’s the hold out? Masculinity? Is this like men who refuse to wear pink or bright colors because they “fear” it will reduce their masculinity? Well, this characteristic sure seems to fit those men that choose not to groom. And I completely disagree with this opinion. There is nothing non-masculine about a man being neatly trimmed and well-groomed.
What’s the standard? Rather what’s the double standard? I know for certain that guys have certain expectations that their partner or significant other be neatly trimmed. So how can they not hold themselves to the same standard? I think that most men need to get out their own way (and old ways). Massive amounts of hair do not make you more manly and unkempt intimate areas can definitely be a deal-breaker with the ladies. It’s like women snickering about you in your tidy whities. You could live with it but why would want to?
The bottom line. Grooming, just as with fashion, is eventually up the gentleman. So do as you please but consider at least holding yourself to the same standards you would your partner or significant other. Hmmm…let grooming happen.
Fashionably Yours,
Mason
