Find All Your Style Tips Here!

What magazines to pick up now to round out your style?

My friends laugh that I can never seem to sit still.  If I have a free hour, I find a way to fill it up.  I’m not sure why I can’t just spend some time at home doing nothing but it is darn near impossible.  In order to actually do nothing, I have to get on a flight to Kansas (of all places).  I spend a few days with one of my girlfriends and her daughter and really, for the most part, I do nothing…maybe an occasional movie (we saw “Law Abiding Citizen”) and we do go out for food.  But most of the day is spent in my pjs catching up on episodes of The Real Housewives and Project Runway and reading magazines from cover to cover.

The first magazine I started reading was MORE (October issue).  I was sucked in immediately by the editor’s letter.  (See I really did read it all, who reads the editor’s letter?)  She talked about aging as being analogous to junior high; awkward in the 7th grade but by the 8th grade kids have come into their own.  It made me smile as I listened to my friend’s, now 8th grade daughter, speak confidently about matters important to her — the hot guys in the movies, the hot guys at the restaurant, the hot guys at school.  LOL.  This was such a departure from even 9 months ago when I had to pull teeth for her to even talk.  Now I know that’s not enough to make you buy a mag so here are my must read articles:

If you’ve decided to cut corners by coloring your own hair, you’ve got to read the article on Healthier Looking Hair in MORE Magazine  I don’t claim to be a hair expert but I do know good hair helps you achieve good style.

Great recipe and table setting ideas are scattered throughout Real Simple (November issue).  I loved the ideas so much that I cooked up the idea to cook Thanksgiving dinner this year.  Style isn’t only what you wear.  I can’t wait to dress my table.

Yes, I even read men’s magazine DETAILS (October issue).  I couldn’t decide what to read on the flight back and while the cashier tried to convince me to get a 50% off pre-read book, I just couldn’t stomach the idea of reading something that someone else flipped through the pages of while sitting on the toilet.  Plus, it’s always good to know what guys are talking about and how we women are portrayed.  Have you ever seen this ad of Eva Mendes in your magazines?  The focus goes directly to her Brazilian waxed area.  Hmm, I told you to wax. :-)

Anyway trying to get your man to update his style since he’s a reflection of you?  Read the entire S+tyle section and learn the importance of the overcoat, how black isn’t just for funerals or night, and cool stuff like the website stealthetime.com where you can rent fine timepieces by the week.  I couldn’t figure out how much membership costs but you can get a month free by entering in detials and then rent a Rolex for him for only $153 a week.  Plus, there is a great article on “Are You Still A Mama’s Boy?”

Well, now I’m back to my twitter, facebook, texting world and skimming through magazines and only reading the articles that truly grab me.  I realize that means I could miss a lot of hidden gems but what to do?  There are only so many hours in a day and I already cram them with to-dos.
