There was a study by onepoll.com commissioned by Matalan on hours women spend choosing clothes. Can you believe 16 minutes every weekday morning? That’s over 69 hours a year on your weekday wardrobe. Wouldn’t you love to have a day and a half back to spa, movies, sleep? Well, here are a few suggestions on how to streamline the morning wardrobe decision making:
1. Organize your closet - lots of women have so much stuff they can’t find anything. So after spending time rummaging through the wardrobe they end up wearing the same pieces they always wear. Does that sound like you? Then take a minute and organize your clothes by item and color — all dresses together, all suits together, all blouses together, etc. You get it. Then you can shop from your own closet in the morning.
2. Get rid of what doesn’t fit – take you extra time because you think you’ll wear those pants but once you get them on they don’t fit, need to be repaired, or just look scary! I was just reading an article in More Magazine and Tim Gunn was helping a 55 year old woman get a more mature look. She was still wearing items from high school. Are you kidding me? Those pieces for sure are outdated and likely to be a little worn (you think). I’m amazed that she could still wear them so that’s what I’d like her to tell me, how not to gain weight or have body shifts… but I digress. But for most of us we can’t still wear the same items from year to year. So try it on at the beginning of the season and what doesn’t fit, get RID of it.
3. Put together a wardrobe planner – when you buy a new item, take time to figure out all the ways to wear it and put it on your closet door. Especially if you’ve done one and two, it will be a very easy cheat sheet for getting work in minutes.
Honestly, we know can put on make-up in 5 minutes or less , how can it take us so long to choose clothes?
