This makes sense:

Men’s Underwear Etiquette

From time to time a topic comes up that…well, just needs to be discussed.  This week that topic is underwear.  Ladies should not be the only ones that are concerned with “unmentionables”.  (see the post Oops! Don’t Forget the Underwear)

Men, we have a right (and a duty) to pay attention to how our underwear appears under our outfits.  Underwear lines are NOT APPROPRIATE for women OR MEN!  So, first let’s clear up the age old debate of which work better — “boxers or briefs?”

  • Briefs: I feel that the only time briefs are appropriate are when exercising.  Any other time they have no place except in your drawers at home.  (see the post Tighty Whities)
  • Boxers: I think they are great except for the fact that they tend to bunch.  That means that eventually if you do not have the perfect fit and bought a larger size for “comfort”, the boxers will eventually become bunched at the top of the waist.  As outfits tend to go for more slim-fitting looks it has become harder and harder for boxers to be worn comfortably.  If you wear the typical khakis or slacks and choose to wear briefs, you could end up with the dreaded underwear lines.

So which to chose?  There is a middle ground — the boxer-brief.  This, honestly, is the best of both worlds.  It has the functionality of a brief but the comfort and length of a boxer.  This option provides a fitted waistband and leg openings.  They are a very good feel and fit for either slacks or jeans.

Do yourself a favor and just try one of the pairs of boxer briefs featured below (click on the photo for details).  As with most things in life you should at least try them once.  I can almost guarantee that you will become a boxer brief believer in no time.

Fashionably Yours,

Mason
