What to wear to work — skirt/dress lengths.

Okay ladies, let’s get together.  I was out today with a friend and saw some women heading to the office in the most inappropriate dresses and skirts — they stopped at mid-thigh.  That is so not work attire!

Now don’t go assuming that it was some hot 20-something trying to flaunt her body.  It was a middle age woman who should know better.  So since she doesn’t and there are probably a few others who don’t know, here are two easy guidelines to help you decide if you can wear that dress/skirt length to the office:

  1. Is it at knee level — right above or right below the knee?  Anything shorter is inappropriate for work.  You’ll want to assess your own body type to decide if it goes above or below the knee (i.e. long legs, below knee; short legs, above knee; large knees, cover knee; etc.).
  2. Does it have a split that shows the goods when you walk (split in the back) or sit (split in the front)?  You already know…don’t wear it!

Now, don’t get made at me because some of your work dresses/skirts don’t work.  Before rushing out to buy new ones, try a tailor.  He/she can possibly let the hem out to lengthen the skirt and sew up splits that are just a little too high.

Still need some new pieces?  Here are a few work appropriate skirts and dress. Just click on the photo to get the full details and even order on line.  Make sense?
