I was browsing through the latest People will I landed on a photo of Beyonce in suspenders. I wanted to scream “NO”. Although, I personally like suspenders (and I think she looks great), I am afraid that people will latch on to this celebrity style and end up looking like they belong on Green Acres. So here are a few tips for you to keep the look high-end:
1. If you can, go for button on suspenders versus clips. This requires a little more work but a cleaners can sew the buttons in for you for less than $10.00.
2. Avoid jeans. While Beyonce looks great in her slim jeans with suspenders and designer heels, everyone won’t! And if you throw the jeans on with a comfort fit jean and flats, you’ll look like you should be bailing hay. So try them with a nice pair of slacks or slim skirt (like the look above from Spiegel’s) for more of a menswear look. Plus, that will make it easier to sew in buttons for the braces.
3. Solid colors. People suggested and I agree that if you go with a multi-color pair of suspenders you will look like a clown. So please just keep them basic.
