A couple of years ago when I owned a clothing store, I had a “purse party”. This was a chance for my customers to exchange their high-end, “only carried it for a season” designer handbags with those who had similar taste. It was a fun time and folks got some great “steals”. I didn’t think about how relevant this could be during recession times until I browsed through the latest issue of Real Simple (May 2009). They recommend having a swap party with friends who have similar taste (and when it comes to clothes, similar sizes). It’s a great way to get a whole new wardrobe (or almost) at no cost. Now, there are a couple of ground rules, of course:
Now if you grab the issue of Real Simple, they’ll tell you how to organize for all several different categories (clothing, children’s, books, etc.). I’m only about style so I suggest doing it for fashionable wear only. Plus, it makes it easier when you know what types of items will be there versus being surprised by what folks bring. A guest may be hoping for a new pair of jeans and get there to find kids sizes only.
Make sense?
