This makes sense:

Pack it up and save.

So, I’m getting ready for this weekend trip.  I’m such a last minute packer.  Really, like two hours before I leave I start packing.  BUT I have decided in my head, days ahead, what I’m taking.  So as I start plotting  my weekend gear in my head, I realize it could cost me money.  Not to buy new clothes but to take what I have on the plane.

With the rising costs of everything and yet everybody trying to cut cost, it now costs me dollars aside of just time to check luggage.  So, I decide to save my $25 – $35 (one way mind you) and pack it all in my carry-on.

This requires strategic packing, so here’s my plan:

  1. Decide on what shoes I must have for the weekend.  I’ve got to have amazing shoes for Saturday night and gym shoes to work off all that I will eat (and drink) over the weekend.
  2. Then decide what I should wear on the plane (and which shoes).  I want to be comfortable yet cute.  I get extra perks when I look nice on the plane so no gym shoes and sweats for me.  As a matter of fact, my friends laugh that I am the only person who wears 4 inch heels through the airport.   My only rule is that they have to be comfortable.
  3. Now I’ve got to figure out what works with those two pair of shoes (travel and Saturday evening) that I can wear on Friday and my travel home on Sunday.

So yes, I’m packing around shoes which usually take up lots of room in a suitcase.  But I am only packing two pair, putting them in shoe bags and choosing my clothing to work with the shoes.

Now it all fits into one carry-on bag and I can spend my $25 on the night out.

Make sense?

Now, I have to get the scoop on what perks you get in the airport for looking nice!! I'm all for comfort when traveling so I usually opt for the comfy matching sweats and tennis shoes. Kim, give us some fashionable alternatives for travel wear. :-)
