Now, let’s be clear, I am not encouraging you to buy something that doesn’t zip because it is too tight. But, if the zipper is broken or the item has a slight tear, missing button, or hanging hem, you might want to consider buying it. Often stores will give you generous discounts on damaged goods because they would otherwise have to write them off. (Stores don’t take items to be repaired in order to sell them for full price.)

So for example, it might cost you $20 to put a new zipper in a pair of pants. If the pants were originally $80 but the store discounted them by 60% now costing you only $32. Once you get them repaired the total cost to you is only $52. You just saved $28! And it doesn’t have to be a huge damage to an article. Maybe the button is missing and the store gives you 10% off to repair yourself. As long as you know how to use a needle and thread, it won’t cost you anything but your time. And 10% is a major savings in a time when gas is almost $5.00 a gallon and sales tax is just about 10%.
So think before you cast off those minor damaged items. It could mean savings for your wallet. Make sense?
