This makes sense:

Seven Simple Style Basics that Everyone Should Know

Just making sure that you do these seven key things will keep you from looking like a fashion misfit. Although, even some of the most fashion conscious people I meet miss one or two of these:

1. Always take the labels off the sleeves. The 100% Wool label is not meant to be seen by everybody. It was only for you in the store.

2. Cut off the hanger straps. Really, you have got to be tired of pushing them off of your shoulders and back into that dress. They were only made to help the dress stay on those plastic hangers.

3. Open the pockets. The stitching was only put there to hold the pocket in place until the purchaser was ready to wear it. Now, make sure there is a real pocket there before you go ripping it up.

4. Open up the split. That split in the jacket or skirt is meant to be open. That lose thread is only holding it in place until you are ready to wear it.

5. Take the plastic off of the fake Louis (Louis Vuitton that is). Buying fake designer bags is a topic for another time. But trust me, everybody already knows its fake, keeping that cheap plastic wrapper on it all calls more attention to it.

6. Remove the stickers on the lenses. The peel off designer name on the lens of sunglasses or reading glasses is meant to come off when you starting wearing them. I find that people want everybody to know that they own designer frames as if we could miss the big Channel “C” or Gucci “G” that is built into the frame. So just let go off the sticker on the front. Otherwise you might end up cross-eyed from staring at the label, like Steve Martin’s customers in the Jerk. (Okay, not really.)

7. Get rid of the labels on the bottom of the shoe. This usually happens when you buy the display shoe or the shoes are on a clearance rack. Everybody doesn’t need to know how much you paid for them. But whenever you cross you leg, there it is…a bright white sticker on the bottom of that black shoe. Who can miss it? And once you’ve worn them for a while it starts to look really tacky. Try adhesive remover from any store. It takes 30 seconds to get it off. (P.S. it can help you with those stickers around the house too. Like the one that’s been on the porcelain toilet for years now.)

Did I miss one?
