Sample Sale Pick of the Day — Earnest Sewn on RueLaLa

ernest-sewnI am not supposed to buy anything else but I keep going back to this sample sale item on RueLaLa today – Earnest Sewn “Ava” Navy Stripe Dress.  It fits into a couple of the season’s trends (nautical and volume) plus I just love how this conservative dress was turned sexy.  Get it now for only $89 (regularly $395).

Who can wear it?

Great for woman with “swag”; you’ll need it to pull this off.  Plus, if you are triangular in shape, meaning your hips are larger than your upper body, this is perfect.  The capped sleeves will give your upper body more width and the full a line skirt will allow for easy fit over your hips.  The end illusion – an hourglass figure! 

Where to wear?

Fun lunch date dress for sure.  He won’t stop staring, neither will the valet, the waitress, the…you get it.  But, don’t wear it anywhere that is too conservative and definitely NOT to church.  Make sense?

Poor Little Rich Girls 2010 Battle of the Boutique — You Choose the Winner!

Poor Little Rich Girls hosted a great event Friday, February 26th.   They brought 6 boutiques to Lumen to battle it out for the best boutique in Chicago.  Each boutique sent 5 looks down the runway;  each look under $200.  The judges were looking for the outfits to 1.) be fashionable, 2.) look more expensive than the cost, and 3.) get us inspired to get dressed. 

The winner was….2 Sisters!!!! The boutique was scored highest by the judges and the audience.

Menswear Trends from New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week actually included fashion for men too!  Overall this year’s shows debuted some great looks.  Read on for the designers that showed men’s wear and the trends you will see this fall.

perry-ellis-trench-coatDouble-breasted seems like it’s the way to go this season.  A lot of designers have chosen to go this route especially with outerwear.  Perry Ellis has taken it up a notch by creating a leather double-breasted trench coat.  I think double-breasted will work for some but not all guys.  It’s a great way to really accent a slimmer taller silhouette. However, shorter more athletic build guys can actually look wide wearing a double-breasted coat because the majority of the focus in on your midsection.  It’s a great look but definitely not for all guys. 

duckie-brown-tartan-plaidTartan plaids seem to always be a staple of the fall fashion scene.  This year is no different.  With designers like Davidelfin and Duckie Brown it looks like the bigger the pattern the better the response. Davidelfin has chosen to go with more subtle hues in blacks and whites while Duckie Brown has gone a bit bolder with reds and yellows.  The great thing about both varieties is that they can be worn not just on the runway but in cities across the country.  Either patterned jacket can be worn with jeans and boots for a classic and bold fall look.

 

 

 

 

Classic is the final theme.  Looks seem to be less trendy and more classic.  Designers seem to be going with a lot of two button blazers instead of the fashionable and trendy one button look.  I think this speaks to the fact that some designs truly are staples.  The two button blazer seems to be proof of that.  Perry Ellis has a blazer in dark suede that I think can be a fall staple for any man’s wardrobe.  Tommy Hilfiger also has a hounds tooth check two button blazer that when paired with a pair of dark brown slacks or chinos can be worn to work for a very smart look. 

Consider adding some of these trends into your wardrobe to plus up your look this fall.  But, remember, the true measure of fashion is not what you wear but how you wear it.
